Peace...
My name is Ladi Bint Idrees…
I am a forty-plus mother of three whose own journey through divorce after fifteen years of marriage has deepened my compassion for families walking challenging paths. For nearly two decades, I have served as a teen mentor and educator, guiding young people with wisdom, discipline, and care.
I am passionate about my faith and worship of God, and believe that strong families are the foundation of a healthy humanity. I am also a self published author whose writing reflects my dedication to nurturing children and shaping homes rooted in love, discipline, and purpose.
I hope my legacy will be a lasting shift in how the world views the family — not just as a private unit, but as the heartbeat of our shared future.
I pray we can benefit from each other on this noble journey…

Dear Reader,
Welcome! My name is Ladi Bint Idrees—author, educator, and teen mentor. For almost two decades, I have walked alongside young people and families, helping them discover strength, resilience, and hope. As a divorced mother of three, I know firsthand the struggles and the beauty of raising children while navigating life’s unexpected turns.
This blog is my heart poured into words. It is a safe space for parents, educators, and anyone passionate about family life to find encouragement, practical strategies, and faith-inspired tools. Here, we will talk about raising teenagers with confidence, nurturing family bonds, and building homes grounded in discipline, love, and trust.
My journey has taught me that parenting is not about perfection—it’s about showing up, again and again, with compassion and courage. It’s about planting seeds of faith and values that will bloom in our children long after today’s challenges are behind us.

Parenting can sometimes feel like a marathon with no finish line. Between school runs, work deadlines, sibling arguments, and the daily grind of meals and chores, many parents feel overwhelmed and stretched thin.
The truth is, stress is unavoidable—but how we manage it makes all the difference. With a few intentional shifts, family life can become calmer, more joyful, and more connected.
Here are five simple parenting shifts that can ease stress at home:
1. Set Clear Routines
Children thrive on structure. Establishing consistent routines for mornings, homework, meals, and bedtime reduces chaos and arguments. For example, having a set “morning checklist” (brush teeth, get dressed, pack bag) helps kids take responsibility for their own start to the day, which saves you from constant reminders.
2. Practice Consistent Discipline
Discipline doesn’t mean harshness—it means clear expectations and follow-through. When children know what is acceptable and what isn’t, and when consequences are predictable, everyone feels more secure. Instead of reacting in anger, calmly remind your child of the rules and apply the agreed consequence. Consistency today reduces power struggles tomorrow.
3. Prioritise Quality Time
Even 15 minutes of focused, undistracted attention can fill your child’s “emotional tank.” Play a game, read together, or simply chat about their day. Quality time strengthens connections and reduces misbehaviour because children feel seen and valued. In a busy world, small pockets of intentional attention mean more than hours of distracted presence.
4. Strengthen Faith Practices
Faith can be an anchor in family life. Whether through prayer, reflection, or teaching values, grounding the home in faith creates stability and resilience. A simple family ritual—like a nightly prayer or a moment of gratitude—reminds everyone of what truly matters and brings peace even on stressful days.
5. Stop Comparing with Other Families
Comparison steals joy. Every family has its own rhythm, strengths, and challenges. What works for your neighbour or friend may not fit your household. Focus on progress, not perfection. Celebrate the small wins—like fewer tantrums, smoother mornings, or a heartfelt conversation with your teen.
Final Encouragement
Parenting is not about getting it all right every day. It’s about learning, adjusting, and moving forward with love. By making these small shifts, you can transform your home into a calmer, happier space.

I never intended to become a single mother. I doubt anyone does. But when it happened, I quickly realised I had two choices:
• See myself as a victim of my circumstances.
• Step forward, with God’s help, and build a new life for my family.
I chose the second path, not because I wasn’t afraid, but because my children needed me. Along the way, I discovered that single motherhood can bring growth, healing, and even joy when approached with the right mindset, tools, and support.
I wrote The Solo Parent’s Playbook because I wish I had a guide like this when I started. I wanted something that resonated with me not just as a parent, but as a woman of faith facing uncertainty, hoping to raise thriving children, build a support circle, and perhaps, one day, find love again.
I remember one night, sitting alone in the dim light of my kitchen after the children had gone to bed, staring at the pile of unpaid bills and wondering how I was going to make ends meet. It was in those moments when I felt most alone yet most determined to find my way forward.
